A digital model helps the engineering team in assessing structures.

Rhomberg Sersa UK uses digital tools for renewing installations for Network Rail, which has led to a further 30-year development contract from Network Rail.

RSUK was awarded the contract by Network Rail to carry out full topographical surveys and drainage and soil investigations on the Mountfield Tunnel. As a result, a complete status analysis was produced and options proposed for a 30-year repair/renewal for the fixing system of the track slab and track. Furthermore, it was stipulated in the specification that each solution had to be capable of being completed within the normally booked closure periods. If this was not possible, it had to be made clear in the development report. While RSUK was carrying out these initial investigations, the team received a phone call from the client and was asked to carry out repair work on site during an emergency closure of the track, as the track system was faulty. In the meantime, RSUK has surveyed the structure and produced a digital 3D twin to help our engineering team in assessing the structure and recommending the best method for renewing the installation so that it can remain in operation for a further 30 years.
