3D printing in railway technology.
The layer-by-layer production of components from digital 3D CAD data opens up new possibilities in railway technology – particularly where standard solutions reach their limits. The Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group uses 3D printing to provide components quickly, precisely and cost-effectively – ready for direct use in projects.
Functional components such as brackets, fixtures and bespoke solutions for overhead line construction, surveying and robotics are produced using 3D printing. The benefits for customers include significantly shorter response times for specific requirements, faster component availability and solutions tailored precisely to the situation on the respective construction site.
The technology demonstrates its particular strengths in the production of prototypes and small quantities, as modifications can be implemented at short notice and tested directly. This increases flexibility within the construction process, supports continuous optimisation throughout the project and enables rapid responses.
Additive manufacturing also offers tangible benefits in terms of resource efficiency, as surplus materials can be repurposed and used in new applications. For example, new shelving is being produced from leftover sections of overhead line cantilevers, joined together using additively manufactured connecting elements.
By combining 3D printing, new materials and complementary technologies such as 3D scanning, the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group is continuously developing its applications. The aim is to provide customers with suitable solutions more quickly and to make innovation effective precisely where it is needed – on the construction site.
