How RSRG teams work closely together for the benefit of customers – two examples.
What customers often do not see: construction sites are all about teamwork. Cooperation and flexibility are essential to ensure that a contract is completed smoothly and to the client’s satisfaction.
In the first example, the equipment originally planned for the “Flamatt–Bümpliz Süd Asset Renewal” project could not be used due to a necessary last-minute change of plan. Instead, RSRG colleagues from the Mechanical Engineering Department in Dornbirn successfully converted the “White Giant” road-rail gantry crane, which was originally designed for laying five-metre-long concrete track support slabs, to enable it to lay concrete sleepers.
Although this had been considered and discussed several times before, the required lifting beam did not yet exist, nor had the method ever been tested in practice. Nevertheless, with the support of colleagues from the branches in Wels and St. Veit in Austria, the Swiss depot in Schwarzenbach and the logistics teams responsible for the two major Koralm Tunnel and Cottbus projects, the complete machinery setup was finalised just two days before the planned deployment.
Thanks to the excellent cooperation between everyone involved on site, combined with a high degree of flexibility and ingenuity, approximately 2,000 metres of track were ultimately laid safely, on schedule and to everyone’s satisfaction.
The second example demonstrates that six weeks can sometimes feel like a luxury. Contrary to forecasts that the substrate would consist of unreinforced concrete, it quickly became clear during the NWC Cottbus project that the vast majority of the more than 6,000 boreholes to be drilled would encounter reinforcement and that the selected method would therefore not achieve the desired result.
Thanks to acceleration measures taken by colleagues on the Nuremberg construction site, the quadruple core drilling machine in use there was made available and, less than a week later, transferred to the NWC Cottbus project following an overhaul and minor modifications. This kept the loss of time to a minimum.
