Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group’s innovative trackwork delivery on the SSTOM project.
Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, working with Webuild as part of the Parklife Metro Consortium, is delivering precision trackwork for Australia’s largest slab track project on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Line. This transformative infrastructure will connect Greater Western Sydney communities to the new Western Sydney International Airport, offering fast, reliable and high-capacity travel while supporting the region’s growth.
RSRG is responsible for building 44 km of continuous slab track – the largest of its kind in Australia. On this ambitious project, crews of up to 60 workers are laying approx. 80 metres of track per day, installing more than 76,000 sleepers and using over 6,400 tonnes of Australian-made steel. These figures underscore the scale, skill and coordination required for a project of this magnitude.
RSRG’s engineering expertise is further evident in the delivery of three complex Diamond Crossovers. Installed to exacting tolerances and fully integrated with RSRG’s proprietary alignment RhoFAS and RhoSAS systems, these trackworks required meticulous planning, precise execution and careful adaptation to confined working conditions.
RSRG also developed in-house Concrete Placement Units (CPUs), specialised rail-bound platforms designed to support slab track construction in tunnel environments. Supported by an integrated system including hi-rail concrete supply and pumping, these units reflect the team’s commitment to innovation and tailored engineering solutions.
Together, these works demonstrate RSRG’s ability to adapt, innovate and deliver high-quality outcomes on one of Australia’s most significant rail projects.
