Coordinated modernisation of key railway lines in Germany.
With its corridor projects, Germany is adopting a new approach to route refurbishment, with heavily used sections completely modernised within compact time windows. The Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group is making a significant contribution in several projects.
The aim is to combine all measures within a full closure lasting several months in order to strengthen the infrastructure sustainably and significantly reduce the construction period. Around 4,000 kilometres of the German network are to be refurbished in this way by 2030.
Hamburg-Berlin Corridor
In Regional Lot 1 between Hamburg and Büchen, the RSRG is responsible for the new construction and renewal of electric point heating systems over around 60 kilometres, as well as the installation of 50 Hz networks and 16.7 Hz backup power supplies for interlockings.
The scope includes 20 new 16.7 Hz point heating stations, including the removal of existing installations, 176 new point heating systems with cabling, the removal of more than 150 old installations and five backup power systems. Delivery is taking place under complex conditions, with civil engineering work carried out predominantly by rail and rail-mounted slewing cranes in use. Additional possessions, particularly in the Hamburg area, require detailed planning.
Passau-Obertraubling Corridor
Between Obertraubling and Passau, 115 kilometres of track, points, signalling and control technology and overhead line systems are being renewed, while stations are being modernised.
The RSRG’s services in Construction Lots 1 and 2 include civil engineering and cable works, 12 concrete switchgear buildings, nine point heating systems, three backup power systems, outdoor distribution boards, connections to the overhead line system, as well as testing and upgrade measures.
A key success factor in both corridor projects is the close cross-regional collaboration within the RSRG.
