With the MECALAC 12 MTX mobile excavator loader, the RSRG is setting new standards specifically for urban track construction sites. Even in its standard configuration, the compact base machine impresses with an outstanding weight-to-lifting-capacity ratio and a modern, comfortable workplace. Thanks to the unique kinematics of its boom and its minimal rear swing radius, the excavator loader enables safe working even on the tightest inner-city construction sites.
To make these advantages available on the track, the machine was developed further with experienced partners to create an innovative road-rail machine. The result is a unique Mecalac with an integrated hydrostatically driven rail undercarriage. It can be adapted flexibly to different track gauges and can therefore be used in different tram networks as well as on industrial and light railways.
The lower structure gauge is designed so that stops can be passed without difficulty. In the tight track curves common in public transport networks, the normally locked articulated steering can be released and articulated by three degrees, allowing even small radii to be negotiated safely.
This first-of-its-kind machine also offers maximum versatility in terms of attachments. Available equipment includes a rotator, pallet forks, grabs with 300 mm and 600 mm wide shells, a backhoe bucket, a swivelling ditch-cleaning bucket, a load hook, a hydraulic breaker and a boom extension.
The development and implementation of this project took around a year and is a strong example of partnership-based collaboration between the dealer, a specialist machine manufacturer and the RSRG’s specialists.
