Concrete measures for more sustainable buildings, vehicles and track construction machinery.
The operation of buildings and track construction machinery offers the greatest leverage for sustainability. This is precisely where RSRG is taking targeted action, and it recorded tangible progress last year.
A key step was operating track construction machinery with 80% HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). This enabled RSRG in Switzerland to significantly reduce fossil diesel consumption directly during operation, without requiring any technical modifications to the machinery.
At the same time, those responsible continued to make sites more sustainable. Photovoltaic systems installed on the roofs of several workshops generate electricity that is used directly on site wherever possible. Ten electric vehicle charging stations are now available for passenger cars at the Effretikon site. An intelligent load management system controls and optimises energy consumption and prevents peak loads. Consumption in the workshop and offices is prioritised, while electric vehicles are only authorised to charge when there is a surplus of photovoltaic electricity.
Around 10% of the vehicles in the Swiss fleet are already electric. For example, the company uses an electric delivery van for regular courier journeys. Employees also receive financial support for expanding the charging infrastructure at their homes.
This creates practical solutions that work in day-to-day operations and gradually reduce the Group’s emissions. This journey will continue with the expansion of the electric vehicle fleet and the installation of charging infrastructure at additional sites – the next steps for RSRG in Switzerland.
