Solutions in steel

DONTASCH Söhne AG has been part of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group since 2020, adding the manufacture of steel products to the Group’s portfolio of services. Since April 2026, these capabilities have been pooled even more systematically and continued at the Landquart site under the Donatsch – Solutions in Steel brand. This is a good opportunity to take a closer look at the portfolio.

The variety of rail fastening systems is enormous. Swiss Federal Railways alone uses more than 1,000 different versions of ribbed baseplates – and most of them have already been produced in Landquart at some point. In the past, many ribbed baseplates were punched, drilled and milled on systems developed in-house, an impressive innovation for the time. Today, they are often machined from solid material on powerful modern CNC-controlled milling machines. Many versions are also welded or otherwise processed by highly qualified welders in Landquart.

DONATSCH – Solutions in Steel also offers a broad product range for railway infrastructure. The portfolio extends from complete signal gantries with spans of up to 30 metres and overhead line masts to support and load-bearing yokes, compression struts, suspended columns, cantilever tubes, buffer stops and smaller components such as anchor plates and mast clamps. To achieve the longest possible service life, these components are hot-dip galvanised or duplex-coated and delivered to the construction site on schedule.

In addition to certifications for quality management in accordance with EN ISO 9001, environmental management in accordance with EN ISO 14001, occupational health and safety management in accordance with ISO 45001 and compliance management in accordance with ISO 37301, the Landquart site holds three welding certifications: for fusion welding in accordance with ISO 3834-2, for the welding of structural steelwork in accordance with EN 1090 and in accordance with EN 15085-2 CL 1, the highest requirement level for welding rail vehicles.

This enables comprehensive repair and fabrication services to be offered for both the company’s own track construction machines and third-party customers. These range from minor repairs to cracking and corrosion, straightening, replacing and reinforcing components, through to converting complete railway wagons for special requirements. Thanks to the direct rail connection, this work can be carried out in the company’s own halls.

In keeping with the DONATSCH – Solutions in Steel name, products for specific applications are also manufactured outside the railway sector. The spectrum ranges from avalanche protection structures and borehole support tubes to a comprehensive line of fencing products and the construction of complete systems. Some of these products were developed in-house, while others are produced to customer requirements.
