How drones and AI create transparency across DB InfraGO’s major project.
The RSRG’s Q-tainer demonstrates that digital solutions and real-time data in construction delivery are no longer a vision of the future. It also answers the question of what modern construction-site monitoring can already achieve today.
What happens when state-of-the-art technology meets one of Germany’s largest construction sites? Q-tainer provides the answer. From August 2025, it was deployed on a five-kilometre construction section near Aumühle as part of the comprehensive upgrade of the Hamburg–Berlin high-performance corridor. The result was clear evidence of what digital construction-site monitoring can achieve.
The Q-tainer forms the digital heart of the construction site. Sensors measure noise levels, vibrations, dust levels and weather data in real time. All information is brought together centrally, evaluated automatically and made available to the project team at all times in a clearly structured dashboard. The system is complemented by GPS trackers on construction machinery and a drone controlled remotely from the office, which can fly over and document the entire construction section every day if required.
The images captured by the drone are analysed automatically using artificial intelligence. Based on the identified components, the system promptly calculates the current actual progress and compares it with the planned target curve. No manual measurement, no surprises. Everyone involved in the project works with the same information and can make data-based decisions.
The added value became particularly clear in January 2026. The Q-tainer’s integrated weather stations recorded the weeks-long winter weather in northern Germany, which temporarily brought concreting and excavation work to a complete standstill. The Q-tainer identified the resulting delays precisely, providing not only transparency for the current project but also valuable data for planning future construction projects.
This is one of the system’s greatest strengths, as the database grows with every project, creating the basis for even more precise forecasts, risk assessments and scheduling for future projects.
