How Rhomberg Sersa Ireland is improving driving behaviour and with it is protecting the environment.

A successful introduction: Rhomberg Sersa Ireland has been able to successfully implement a system that analyses and assesses the driving behaviour of drivers of commercial vehicles , which operate and maintain the fleet of track-laying machines for Irish Rail throughout the Irish rail network. In addition to the safety-related aspects, the system also brings environmental benefits.

The system is integrated by what is known as on-board telematics, which is installed in all commercial vehicles. Personal driving behaviour can be observed by an online dashboard, which is controlled by an algorithm. Drivers can also see on the dashboards where their own driving behaviour has been conspicuous - for example, by accelerating or braking hard. This enables drivers to identify and improve their own driving habits, which in turn increases the efficiency of their journeys.

The effects that have been seen since the system was implemented are impressive. Since the start of the project, diesel consumption has dropped significantly: Overall, 11% less diesel is used, which not only saves fuel costs but is also good for the environment.

In addition, Rhomberg Sersa Ireland now operates six electric cars, saving over 19 tons of CO2 in two years - the equivalent of storing the CO2 of around 2.000 mature oak trees in one year.
