Cottbus: Bahnhof Süd rebuilt and commissioned.
The redevelopment of Bahnhof Süd was carried out in connection with the New Cottbus Depot project. During the construction of Hall 1, existing tracks had to be removed. To compensate for this, the track layout in the southern area was expanded and adapted to meet future operational requirements.
The extensive infrastructure works were carried out between October 2024 and March 2026. In addition to the expansion of the track layout, the technical equipment and lighting were modernised, with around 400 lighting masts installed to improve illumination throughout the entire track area. In addition, 24 kilometres of cable were laid and 24 kilometres of catenary systems were installed for the overhead contact line equipment.
As part of the track construction works, 6,360 metres of track were laid and 230 metres of trafficable BODAN panels installed. Ten buffer stops were installed for safety purposes, and a training facility comprising 450 metres of track was constructed. In addition, 16 points were installed and equipped with point heating systems to ensure safe operation during winter.
The telecommunications infrastructure was also comprehensively renewed: cable diversions, complete telecommunications connections and five EZVA acceptance points were installed to ensure a stable supply. In addition, street lighting was installed for the TVT hall and the logistics area.
The redevelopment lays the foundations for safe, efficient and future-ready railway operations. The successful completion of this milestone therefore represents the achievement of a significant objective in meeting future operational requirements.
