A tongue-in-cheek application of RSRG’s mobile construction robot.
Many myths surround the futuristic Baubot robot from the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, as only a few of the Group’s customers have so far seen it in action on their construction sites. Two sites where the device was used were the Koralm and Semmering Base Tunnels, where it drilled the holes required for handrail installation.
However, those responsible at RSRG boosted its visibility at the company’s 2025 autumn festival in Dornbirn. Visitors to the event were able to experience the robot live for the first time – albeit in a surprising role as an artist. Some immediately asked about the missing drill. Had the DRILLING robot project failed? Of course not! Behind the scenes, the team is working intensively on developing the system further for real construction-site applications.
However, drilling noise would hardly have enhanced the festive atmosphere. The Baubot was therefore fitted with a 3D-printed pen holder and a few marker pens and, following software adjustments, produced a stylised image of a tamping machine on the wall.
Although not entirely serious, this application demonstrates the system’s versatility and leaves one question open: What’s next for Baubot?
